Hey ladies,
Well today rocky was outside exploring and when he came back inside I noticed his one cheek was swollen. I didn't notice any stingers etc. I I talked to a good friend of mine that this happened to her dogs before and she recommended the Benedryl root. I had read before that 1mg per lb is a good recommendation. So I gave him about 1/3 of a 25mg pill, approx 7-8 mg. It already seems to have gone down, he is a little sleepy but it is to be expected. Thank-goodness for Benadryl!! Have you guys ever used it for dog allergies?

Yes, I use children's benadryl. I keep it on hand at all times as one of my females is very allergic to bug bites/stings and her whole face will swell up if bitten.

well I found out that , the side of his face that was swollen had been hit by the door. He has recovered, but he is kind of congested today, espically when he goes outside, but seems to get better when he comes in the AC, i bet he has allergies. But at least I have the Benadryl on hand. Leslie do you use the liquid childrens? I had just cut up an adult dosage.

hmm now Im worried that he might have some sort of cold or congestion...when he plays or breaths hard sometimes it sounds like a stuffy nose, almost like a snorting congestion....do you think I need to take him to the vet? or is it like a human when we have a cold and it just runs it course??

well, if anyone is interested, Rocky has a mild case of Kennel Cough....who knows how he got it. He is on Antibotics for 10 days and Robitussin 3xs a day as needed. He is still eating/drinking and playing so dr is ruling out anything worse. He hasn't coughed since Sunday afternoon, so I am hoping by the end of the week he will be sounding less snotty. Scary hearing him cough though.

poor little guy! hope he is feeling better soon. and as for the bendadryl, we have it on hand, the vet even said that the smallest amount is ok. Teddy has been stung by bees twice... his love of the outdoors really doesnt do him any good. He swelled up and his face looked like a sharpay
