Hey guys.
How often do you have to get your dog's teeth cleaned? And do you brush their teeth?
Koda and Cooper eat dental food I buy from the vets for all of their meals and Koda had to have his teeth cleaned when he was two and now the vet says he has to again, he always has a tooth on one side that gets infected and bad looking. There is no decay in it yet though.
Should I ask to get it pulled, or is it normal every 2 years for a small dog to have to go under to get his teeth cleaned?
Cooper is bigger than Koda and we've never had a problem with his teeth.

I get mine cleaned as needed. I don't think every 2 years is excessive. Some Chihuahua's have better teeth than others. There are also products out there to help with plaque and stuff. Petz Life is one I believe and also Laba III. I haven't used either one, but I have heard good things about them both. I wouldn't have his tooth pulled unless it is causing him problems.

Bella is going for her first dental in Sept. and she is 6.....I periodically clean their teeth...admittedly not as often as I should....I tried the plaque remedy you put in their water....but Bella could not tolerate it...but it might be worth a try after he has his dental done...

Sadie and Ritzy get theirs cleaned about every 2 years! They're actually due for a cleaning and will probably go in September when Nate is on dentistry! We really should brush their teeth but don't really do it too often. It's so easy to forget. After they get their dentals, I told Nate we need to do it more often!!

Okay, I guess Koda just hasn't got the greatest teeth. I am going to try and look for the plaque remedy for the water. He won't let me brush his teeth...and to be honost I wouldn't remember to do it every night.
Thanks guys. He is going in this coming Wed to get it done. Poor guy. He was drowsy for about 4 days after he had it done last time.

I brush my crew every other day. None have needed a dental cleaning. With all 4 it takes about 10 minutes per time. (they all just fall asleep while I do it ) Olive is 4 years and the vet says her teeth look brand new like a young dogs I was a vet tech when I was first in college and trained to scale teeth as well, so I will scale them on my own if ever needed, and once again they just sleep while I do that too, so that is a benefit.

I cleaned Teddy's teeth yesterday with a micro fibre cloth to see if it was any good....it really worked well....couldn't believe he just lay there & let me.....Shaz said he'll be flossing next My sister ( who works at our vet's) gave me a finger toothbrush to use as well. Since Milo had his teeth done last week (only cos he was already under anaethetic) I will maintain his Hollywood smile Vet recommended the charcoal rings to clean teeth, in preference to the greenies, etc.

I do feel pretty lucky......they don't much mind it at all.... Moose actually sits next to me while I clean the others teeth and begs for his to be done....he LOVES the toothpaste!

I use CET dog toothpaste with just a small dog toothbrush (it has a large head on one end and a small head on the other end)
