Hey All! I was curious if you guys leave your Chi's in crates or Exercise pen's when you are not home or have you let them have free roam of your home. Rocky is almost a year not and I am curious if I want to try to let him free roam or not. Also if you did let them free roam how did you go from one to another? Any info helps! Thanks!!

Sadie, Ritz and Cali have free roam of the house. They were only locked up when we first got them. When they showed that they can hold their pee or pee on the pads, we let them out!

Did you just pick a day and try leaving them out? Or did you wait till they were a specific age?

Sadie actually always had free run because she was already a year old when we got her. Ritzy we waited until when we let him out to play he ran back to his pad to pee. When he was consistent with this, we let him have free run. It wasn't a certain age because we don't know exactly how old he is.

mine also free roam...Bella was 13 months when we got her so no problems there...with Izzy we kept her in an xpen until she was using the pp pad consistently...we then started leaving her out for ever longer periods ...now she is always free and never uses the pp pad...go figure

I am thinking about putting his ex-pen in one of the spair bedrooms instead of the front room and then letting him have the bedroom to himself and seeing how that goes, If it does well I will try more and more space and if it doesn't then at least he can have that room. He is only 11 months, so he might be young cause he will have an occasional accident. Will keep you updated!

When we go out, Teddy and Milo are in their crate/pen - they sleep most of the time anyways so this keeps my mind at rest knowing they are safe in their own special area - where we live, our house backs onto a walkway - so sometimes kids rattle sticks on our fence and it sets the dogs crazy - i wouldnt want anyone to come over the fence and hurt them so i think they are safest inside in their pen.

hmm well he never has accidents in his ex pen but when he is roaming when I am home he does have the occasional accident or dribbling I should probably wait a little longer to attempt this. Thanks for the input girls.

Well, we have our extra room set up as our "dog room" everything there is for the dogs. They have beds, blankets, toys, and everything needed when we're gone out. Our boys stay in the "dog room" while Jazmyn and Emmy stay in our bedroom since Emmy's whelping pen is in there. Nothing too snazzy goin' on here...

Yeah, I would wait until he is accident free. Good luck! ok so in question to this, I am confused about the accident free part now. When I am home all day, Rock is use to a consistent schedule. As soon as he jumps off the bed in the morning I get up and take him out, he goes out again around 11am, then 3pm, after dinner, the evening and before bed. Also if he takes a long nap I take him out after he wakes. As long as I stick to this schedule he is accident free. However if I miss a time, like dont take him out after he jumps off the bed or wait till 4pm instead of 3pm he will more than likely have an accident. So is that considered accident free or no?

Does Rocky ever 'ask' to go out, like go and sit by the door waiting to be let out?? if he is doing this praise him and he will soon learn to wait by the door when he has to pee - Teddy and Milo will both scratch at the door when they want to come out.

Other times he will just come up to me and jump and bark and I will ask him and if he continues to jump or runs to the steps I will take him out. However i will note that if I ignor him after a while he will have an accident.
