Hi ladies/gents
Well Rocky is 1 year and 4 months old now. I finally got a full time job after being unemployed for over a year, so now Rocky is in his crate for about 9 hours a day. I say crate but it is really an ex-pen at about a 4 foot radius. He has his bed and blanket, toys, kongs and a small dish of water. He goes out 2xs before I leave in the morning and does not put up a fuss when I tell him to get into his crate before I leave. But so far since starting work, about a month. I have not had 1 week go by where he doesn't pee in his crate at least 2-3 times a week. I have tried leaving him less water, and i always clean the bottom of the crate out with Ceasar's pet urine spray. I just don't know what else to do to get him to stop. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Does he have potty pads in the x-pen? You may just need to give him a dedicated place to go as he may not be able to hold it for 9 hours.

sadly when he is bored, he will eat and shred up the potty pads. I am also worried that since he is well trained when I am home, I don't want him to start using the pad's instead of going outside.

9 hours is a long time to ask a small dog to hold it. I know they are capable because there are days mine have when we are out on the weekends but we supply them with puppy pads for that "just in case" moment. They have those holders to place pads in...maybe try that? Mine will resort to the pads only when necessary, otherwise if I am home they go outside.
